Prepare your account
Install WeChat from your official app store. Register with a phone number you can access and follow the payment setup shown in your account. App menus and verification requirements can differ by account and version.
Link an eligible international card in the payment area. Keep your identity document available if verification is requested. The payment service and your bank both have their own eligibility checks.
Merchant payments and personal transfers differ
A card-linked wallet is not the same as a fully unrestricted local bank account. Before relying on a feature, check whether the app supports it for your account and card. Do not assume that because a purchase works, transfers or other financial functions will also work.
Set up the app before you need it. Keep the original identity document accessible if the service asks for verification and allow time for any checks.
When a payment does not complete
Check the app’s transaction record and the on-screen message. If the result is uncertain, ask the merchant to check too before repeating the payment. A bank notification and a completed merchant transaction are not always the same signal.
Use official support for account or card problems. Keep a second payment option and enough battery to access the app throughout the day.

Check payment terms in the app
Before you confirm a purchase, review the merchant, amount and any fees displayed. Check with your bank about overseas use and currency conversion. Merchant payments and personal transfers are different functions; do not assume that a foreign card enables every feature.
Keep more than one way to pay
A second payment method is useful when a card or account is declined. Keep a physical card, access to some cash and saved bank support details. Set up mobile data before you need to pay away from Wi-Fi.
