The Wikipedia table is community-edited and flags itself as needing updates, so treat its dates as a guide and not as a live status. Rules change without notice, and a block can be lifted or added from one week to the next.
Which connection are you on?
An answer about one app depends on the path your traffic takes: local mobile data, a hotel’s Wi-Fi or a roaming eSIM are three different routes. Airalo’s help page says its China eSIM routes data through gateways outside mainland China and that this does not apply to hotel Wi-Fi. That is the provider’s statement about its own product, not an independent test.

Downloads are the safer plan
Netflix offers downloads on supported titles and devices. Fill your phone or tablet at home on Wi-Fi, then open a few titles in airplane mode to check they play. Download rules and expiry vary by title, so look at each one.
Streaming eats a plan quickly
Video is the fastest way to use up a fixed-data eSIM. If you intend to stream at all, compare the unlimited plans above and read their fair-use notes first.
Do this before you fly
- Update Netflix and check that you can sign in.
- Confirm that account recovery works without your home SIM if you plan to swap it.
- Save bookings, addresses and key contacts offline.
- Read the routing notes of the data plan you actually buy.
