Read every coverage list
If your trip includes both, check whether each destination appears on the eSIM package’s coverage list. A plan labeled “China” might not be the regional product you need. Compare the validity period against the days on both sides of the journey.
Treat the crossing as a practical reset
Before changing destinations, check mobile coverage, entry arrangements, accommodation and the next payment method. Keep the onward ticket and your first mainland address offline. The name of a regional eSIM is not enough: read its coverage list.
If you are buying separate transport tickets, consider the time and procedures between them. Do not make a tightly timed booking immediately after a border crossing without understanding the full journey.
Check the data line after the journey
Confirm that the intended plan is supplying data and that it is valid in the new destination. Follow the provider’s instructions if the network or roaming settings need attention. Keep the support details available before making the crossing.
Check the onward entry separately
Use the National Immigration Administration ↗ to check eligibility, permitted entry points and allowed activities. Reviewed 5 November 2026. This guide cannot grant permission to enter.
Keep both sets of travel details
Save accommodation addresses, booking references and your onward transport details offline. Review your payment setup for each part of the trip. Do not discover a coverage gap at the point when you need the booking confirmation.
