“Does it work?” needs one more question: on which connection? Local mobile data and a hotel’s Wi-Fi are different from international roaming. Do not assume a working connection on one network means the next network will behave the same way.
Download any booking or meeting information that someone sent you in a direct message. Keep travel details in an offline note instead of relying on a saved post.

Turn saved posts into a usable itinerary
A collection of saved posts is a useful source of ideas, but it is not an offline itinerary. Write down the place name in Chinese, the address and any reservation details. Capture a screenshot of practical directions if the account has posted them.
If a local host has sent instructions in a direct message, keep a copy outside the app. A disappearing connection should not make the meeting point disappear too.
Plan your uploads around your allowance
Photos, videos, cloud backups and background sync all compete for the same mobile allowance. Use your phone’s data controls to decide what can wait. Before a trip, check which apps are permitted to use mobile data and whether backups run automatically.

What about Wi-Fi and VPNs?

Will Instagram work on hotel Wi-Fi?
Instagram is generally restricted on mainland local networks. Hotel Wi-Fi is a separate connection from an international roaming data plan.
Does every travel eSIM have the same routing?
No. Check the exact provider and package. A claim about one provider does not establish the behavior of every eSIM.
What should I save offline?
Keep bookings, written addresses, essential contacts and account recovery arrangements usable without relying on a single online service.
